ENDORSED BY AIAC
Established in 1978, the Asian International Arbitrational Centre (Malaysia) (”AIAC”) which was formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) was the first arbitration centre in Asia to be established under the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), an international organisation comprising 47 member states from across the region. The Centre was first set up to provide institutional support as an independent and neutral venue for arbitration proceedings in Asia. Currently, it stands alongside only four other regional centres located in Egypt, Nigeria, Iran, Kenya and one upcoming Centre in Hong Kong.
Since its inception the Centre has evolved into a global hub for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Over the past four decades, it has built itself from the ground up, recording 895 cases in 2021 starting with only 22 in 2010. The AIAC has since received through its doors, a total number of 5408 ADR cases to date. The Centre has entered into 50 partnerships with local and international organisations and conducted over 400 capacity building events for more than 44,000 participants thus far.
The AIAC brand now showcases a reinvigorated commitment to provide the best ADR services, with a comprehensive blueprint in place to deliver on this commitment. Under the leadership of its current director, Tan Sri Datuk Suriyadi bin Halim Omar, the Centre reverberates with innovation and a renewed sense of drive to enhance the services and products of the AIAC.
This dynamism was amplified last year when the Centre launched the revised AIAC Arbitration Rules 2021 which presents itself as a comparable and competitive product reflecting contemporary international standards and practices of the modern arbitration world. This upward momentum continued with the Centre’s launched of the revised AIAC i-Arbitration Rules 2021, a globally recognised framework for holistic islamic arbitration and the AIAC Academy. The AIAC’s brand identity signals our continued passion to broaden boundaries, beyond the horizon.
