What is Internet of Things (IOT)?
Is mankind seamlessly connected virtually now more than ever before in history? Connected devices and embedded sensors are what make up the internet of things or IOT. Or shall we say Internet 2.0 to make it simple. A seamless experience for exploring and using the internet whenever and wherever you go. And the most surprising thing about it is, about 10 to 15 years ago no one expected the internet to be mobile and become an essential part of our daily lives.
How IOT started?
When the internet began, we could only access the internet at specific stations like home computers and at an internet café. And we all thought that that was it and that was all that the internet could offer, only catered to those who are tech-savvy to take advantage of its benefits. But now, internet is easily accessible for us to be connected to the rest of the world and digital devices have become an inevitable part of our daily life.
It all started with the invention of the smartphones and tablet PCs, and Steve Jobs had envisioned it since the early 90s but due internal conflict, he was ousted and had to venture into other businesses and sectors. This technology could have come earlier if he was given the chance to work on it. But all in all, when he introduced the iPhone in 2007 and the iPad later, that was the game changer, the world has changed and now it just keeps evolving from this point of origin.
IOT and our daily lives.
Today, we all depend our daily lives on IOT. Businesses depend on IOT to run their operations. From connecting with loved ones and checking on them daily, to customer service operations that needs to cater to many different customers at many different places, to work that requires the internet to be mobile for it to function, and of course, through online shopping which has given us much conveniences to get our daily needs especially during this time of pandemic where social distancing is a daily necessity.
The ease of access of internet and digital devices has made businesses to become even more innovative and competitive. Business collaboration can be done without boundaries, and productivity and efficiency bumped up to a higher level.
The Future of IOT is Now.
Our lives today have been shaped by technological revolution and the internet has become part of our lives even more so than ever before in human history. Never has mankind become so dependent on such intangible object that is virtual to run his or her daily routine. As technology advances and the internet become speedier with greater coverage and stability in connectivity at more suburbs and rural areas, IOT will be more widespread. The future of IOT is now. Let us witness the impact of IOT with the increasing demand in smart homes, smart cars, smart appliances and smart cities at everywhere and anywhere and reliance over automation in business environment and our daily routine.
